Real misses early CL qualification

Real Madrid missed out on early qualifying for the Champions League. Zinedine Zidane’s team did not manage to go beyond a goalless draw against surprise FC Getafe on the 34th matchday of the Primera Division and remain in third place with 65 points.

The Madrilenians, who were replaced by international Toni Kroos in the 78th minute, thanked goalkeeper Keylor Navas for not losing the game: The 32-year-old secured the points with a brilliant parade in the 74th minute.

The Madrid suburb hosts remain in fourth place with 55 points, followed by FC Sevilla, who equalled Getafe on points after a 5-0 (0-0) win over Rayo Vallecano at the bottom of the league standings.

The table is led by champions FC Barcelona (80 points), who will be able to perfect the title defence on Saturday against UD Levante, as the Catalans won the direct comparison against pursuers Atletico Madrid (71).
