Milan threatens exclusion from European Cup

Serie A: FFP: Milan threatens exclusion from European Cup

The Italian showpiece AC Milan is threatened with exclusion from the European Cup. This is due to repeated violations of the rules of financial fair play. This was announced by the UEFA investigative chamber on Wednesday.

Milan infringed the rules during the investigation period, which covered the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. The case had therefore now been referred to the Court of First Instance, where a judgment was delivered.

As a repeat offender, Milan threatens a harsh punishment. At the end of last year, the club was already sentenced to a fine of twelve million euros for FFP violations between 2015 and 2017, originally the club had even been excluded from the Europa League. The club’s appeal against this sanction is currently before the International Court of Sport (CAS).

In Serie A, the Milanese are on course to return to the Champions League, despite a dry spell in recent weeks. Former World Champion Gennaro Gattuso’s team currently occupies fourth place, which entitles them to compete in the premier class – should Milan not be banned from the international competition.
