Just one week after Real Madrid’s prestigious Clásico victory, the Royal Family are having a flop against Betis. The Kings can’t regain the top spot in the standings.
A week after the Clasico victory over FC Barcelona, Spanish record holders Real Madrid have lost their lead in the La Liga. The Real Madrid surprisingly lost 2-1 (1-1) to Betis Sevilla in the starting eleven with international Toni Kroos. Betis defender Sidnei (40th) secured the lead for the home side before Karim Benzema (45.+3) equalised after a penalty.
In the end, it was former Barca player Cristian Tello (82nd) of all people who made the victory perfect for the underdog.
Real playful lead in Sevilla
In the second half the Brazilian Vinicius Junior only hit the crossbar (70.) for Real in front of 51.521 spectators.
With Barca having already won 1-0 against Real Sociedad yesterday thanks to Lionel Messi, the Catalans now rank two points ahead of the Royal. A win would have seen Real slip past Barca again. (La Liga table)
Kroos, who like so many of his teammates could not continue his strong performance from the previous week, was replaced in the 69th minute.
