Vice World Champion Luka Modric is about to extend his contract with Spanish record champion Real Madrid. According to the Madrid sports newspaper Marca, the new working paper of the current world footballer is to run until 2021.
This week, Modric’s midfield colleague Toni Kroos had already extended his term with the royals.
Modric is currently under contract until 2020. In order to stifle speculation about a transfer this summer, the captain of the Croatian national team is to be bound for another year. The report states that a clause in the routine’s contract is used for this purpose: Thanks to the win of the Ballon-d’Or, Real has the option to extend the contract for another year. However, this clause is not officially confirmed.
Zinedine Zidane’s wish is Modric’s whereabouts: the French coach is said to have spoken to Modric personally and to have assured him that he will continue to rely on the 33-year-old even after the squad has been restructured this summer.
In the summer of 2012, Modric moved from Tottenham Hotspur to the Spanish capital for 35 million euros to win the Champions League four times with Real.
