One week after their victory in the Clásico against FC Barcelona, Spanish record champions Real Madrid have lost their lead in the Primera Division.
The Real Madrid team surprisingly lost 2-1 (1-1) to Betis Sevilla in the starting eleven with international Toni Kroos. Real are now two points behind arch-rivals Barcelona with eleven games to go. The Catalans had struggled on Saturday to beat Real Sociedad San Sebastian 1-0.
The winning goal scorer for Sevilla was a former Barcelona player, of all people. Substitute Cristian Tello (82nd) scored in midfield after a momentous loss in Madrid. Previously, defender Sidnei had put Betis in the lead (40.), but only minutes later he caused a penalty after a foul on Marcelo, which Karim Benzema converted (45.+3).
