The City Football Group continues to grow: As the ninth club worldwide, the holding company has taken over the Belgian second division club Lommel SK. “This investment is part of our long-term strategy to be present in important football countries, to play beautiful football and to develop talent,” said Ferran Soriano, Managing Director of City Football Group (CFG) on Monday. Hopes are pinned on the discovery of future talents such as Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany.
According to media reports, CFG will reduce the club’s debts of around two million euros as part of the deal. Lommel was sixth in the 2nd division, which consists of only eight teams, before the Corona season ended. The CFG network, whose founder Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought Manchester City in 2009, includes the English champions, MLS club New York City FC, Melbourne City FC (Australia), Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan), Club Atletico Torque (Uruguay), Sichuan Jiuniu FC (China), FC Girona (Spain) and Mumbai City FC (India).
