Atletico Madrid has probably initiated disciplinary proceedings against world champion Antoine Griezmann. According to ESPN, the club accuses its superstar of breach of contract because he did not show up for training.
Before coach Diego Simeone’s team flew to Los Angeles on Sunday to prepare for the season, Atletico Griezmann made a public appeal for them to come to the meeting place.
The 28-year-old did not show up, however, as he continues to expect a transfer to FC Barcelona.
Because of breach of contract, he is now threatened with the highest possible penalty, which his contract permits with the Rojiblancos. According to the report, Griezmann will be prosecuted with up to 200,000 euros.
At the end of last season, Griezmann announced his departure from Atletico and it is expected that the Catalans will pay the fixed redemption of 120 million euros for the Frenchman. The problem currently seems to be the payment method, because Barcelona wants to transfer the amount in instalments, which the Madrileneans reject.
The Spanish media reported on Sunday that Griezmann was now planning to deposit his transfer fee of 120 million euros with the Spanish association RFEF, which would officially end his employment with Atletico.
