The coronavirus in sport: overview of consequences and dates
The sports year 2020 is already history, because the ubiquitous coronavirus has not even stopped at the sports world. In the meantime it is certain: Both the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games in Tokyo will not take place until next year.
Leagues that have already broken off prematurely, such as the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), and sporting events that have been removed from the calendar without substitution, such as the Formula 1 race in Monte Carlo, are currently dominating the sporting headlines. Furthermore, it is still completely open and in part more than questionable to what extent the currently interrupted sporting competitions in almost all sports can still be made up for and/or completed on a regular basis and what long-term effects this will have for the individual sports, leagues, associations, clubs and the athletes themselves.
