Löw dares – but does not win

For Bundescoach Joachim Löw, the positive outweighed the positive after the two 1-1 draws against Spain and Switzerland. He consciously took the risk with the new pressing.

Relaxed, tidy, almost in a good mood, Joachim Löw made his appearance after the 1:1 in Switzerland, which had followed the 1:1 against Spain. However, the federal coach quickly admitted that both games were crossed by “light and shadow”, so that his feelings were “mixed”. In both games he had discovered “good approaches”, but also “mistakes” in his own. The first halves were well advised before a 1-0 lead was followed by a 1-1 equaliser instead of a second goal.

Happiness in the final phase Löw found this duplicity of events
“annoying”, because with an enlarged lead “both teams could not have come back at this point in time”, he believed. But the chances were not exploited twice, especially by Julian Draxler. On the other hand, however, the same deficit struck, the Swiss also awarded good opportunities, Steffen, Seferovic or Embolo. And in the confused final phase of an increasingly confusing second period, the German team was lucky not to lose.
