At the Hammers, where Diang had signed a six-year contract in January 2019, the 22-year-old celebrated his Premier League debut two years ago, but was unable to assert himself permanently. It wasn’t until West Brom that it clicked, so the Baggies offered 13 million euros and brought Diang back.

“I’m still young,” the U-21 national now says, “and last year was like my first season in professional football. I feel like all I can do is get better.”

Didn’t West Ham have that feeling? The former players seem to have. Captain Mark Noble wrote on Twitter that his club is letting the talented home-grown grow: “As captain of this football club, I am disappointed, angry and sad that Grady has left, a great boy with a great future.”
