EL-Quali: Austria meets Apollon Limassol

Lucky draw for the FK Austria Vienna. In the third round of qualifying for the European Football League, the Viennese will face Apollon Limassol. The Austria will start at home on August 8th, one week later the decision will be made on August 15th.

Apollon Limassol had lost the first leg against Shamrock Rovers 1:2 away, but at home it was a thrilling thriller. Emilio Zelaya destroyed Limassol’s first leg result in minute 18, while Sasa Markovic raised it to 2-0 in the 64th minute. After Fotios Papoulis saw red after 67 minutes, Shamrock Rovers also scored their away goal, in persona Aaron Greene. The cards were reshuffled completely. In extra time, the Irish also conceded an exclusion, Lee Grace had to leave the court after 92 minutes with yellow-red, before Adrian Sardinero Corpa scored the 3:1 for Apollon and thus shot the Cypriots into the third qualifying round and the duel with Austria.

Due to Austria’s placement in the UEFA five-year ranking, the Austrian Bundesliga has five starting places for the European Cup in the 2019/20 season. In addition to Red Bull Salzburg (group stage), LASK (third qualifying round) also plays in the Champions League, WAC (group stage) and Austria (third qualifying round) represent Austria like Sturm in the Europa League.

The second qualifying round of the Europa League will be drawn on 19 June, more than a month before the first leg.

The Austrian Bundesliga is represented by five clubs in the current season.
