Bundesliga: Reus about champion title dream: "In two, three years it has to work out"

Marco Reus has once again stressed his longing for the first championship title of his career. In the last season he failed with Borussia Dortmund in the title fight narrowly against FC Bayern Munich.

“My greed has actually been extremely pronounced since my first day at BVB. But the closer we get to the end of our own career, the more intensively we focus on it,” Reus told the kicker. On May 31 Reus celebrated his 30th birthday. “In the next two or three years, it has to work out. I’ll do anything for it.”

Last season the BVB ranked nine points ahead of FC Bayern, but finally had to admit defeat by two points. However, he considers the narrowly missed championship title to be an important step in the development of the team.

“You can only process a missed title on a team. I also believe that this will help us in the future. That’s probably the bright side. Everyone has now had their own experience,” Reus said. “Our goal must therefore be to stay at the top until the end and then win the title.”

For the new season, BVB has already signed up three top-class newcomers: Thorgan Hazard, Julian Brandt and Nico Schulz. “We’ve strengthened well,” Reus praised. “It’s good for us, it means more quality and depth. Especially in the second half of the season we lacked the necessary power due to some injuries. That’s why I think it’s good and right that the competition is getting even bigger.”

He is particularly looking forward to working with Brandt. “He’s a great player, has a great understanding of the game, can take on a variety of positions on the offensive,” Reus said. Although Brandt prefers to hold a similar position to Reus, he could imagine an “absolute” interplay.
