Bundesliga: Bayern talent on the verge of jumping to Freiburg

According to kicker information, 19-year-old Woo-Yeong Jeong from FC Bayern is about to leave the field. The SC Freiburg should have the best tickets on a commitment of the South Korean in spite of further interested parties.

Jeong’s qualities were much appreciated by the record champion from Munich, but according to the report his chances of playing time were very low. Due to his desire to play regularly at a high level, a change is probably only a matter of form.

But it is not only Freiburg who is concerned with the Korean U20 international. Already at the beginning of the year an interest from Mainz was reported and also the 1st FC Nuremberg and the FC Augsburg should be involved. In addition, the Austrian champion Red Bull Salzburg, a participant of the Champions League, is on the list of interested parties for Jeong.

In the meantime, however, Mainz is said to have refrained from an obligation. Nuremberg, on the other hand, can imagine a loan business, since the transfer fee of two million euros that has been reported could not be paid after the second league relegation. But a loan is rather unlikely. Jeong already indicated that it would only agree to a firm commitment.

Despite the strong competition, SC Freiburg Jeongs should be the favourite. The main reason for this is Freiburg’s role as a training club. Under coach Christian Streich many talents made the breakthrough. Matthias Ginter is just one example of a player who made it from the Freiburg youth to the German national team. The only obstacle to an obligation is apparently the desire of the Bavarians to secure a buy-back option for Jeong.

In 2018 Jeong moved from the youth of the Korean first division club Incheon United to Säbener Straße. There he played 29 regional league matches for Bavaria’s Reserve in the past season and scored 13 goals. In addition, he was able to record a short mission in the Bundesliga and the Champions League for the professionals.
