President Uli Hoeneß emphasized during the premiere of the documentary “Kroos” in Cologne that his FC Bayern Munich would have liked to keep Toni Kroos in the club.
“We made a mad offer and told him: ‘If you don’t accept this, you have to go’, Hoeneß said about the negotiations in 2014. Kroos refused, and FC Bayern sold him to Real Madrid for 25 million euros.
In the film Kroos explains that he immediately regretted his first contract extension with FC Bayern: “During the signing Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made such a statement. ‘Wow, but now you have a great contract’, according to the motto, then you have to play a little better now.”
In 2006, Kroos moved from his youth club Hansa Rostock to the junior division of FC Bayern. After a one-and-a-half year loan to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, he established himself in the Munich professional team from 2010.
