Belfodil makes serious accusations against Hoffenheim

In 1899 Ishak Belfodil accuses Hoffenheim of having put his career on the line – and sees no future at TSG.

If coach Alfred Schreuder is right, Ishak Belfodil (27) will no longer play for TSG Hoffenheim this season. The striker was supposed to be back in top form for the season after the cruciate ligament injury he suffered on the 34th day of the previous season. But things turned out differently – Belfodil is now settling accounts with his employer.

“I no longer have any confidence,” he told the “Bild”. “There is no longer any basis for a successful collaboration.” His accusations: The TSG doctors first made a wrong diagnosis, then pressure was exerted when he decided to have an operation himself. “I’m lucky that nothing more was broken. My career was put at risk recklessly.”

“Pressure had been exerted until the night before…
After his knee injury, Belfodil had initially been treated conservatively and was used for the first five games of the current season before he went under the knife in mid-October. Initially, the doctors told him that “I got off lightly”. But he had “realised pretty quickly that abrupt changes of direction were difficult. I could not shoot with my left hand.”

When he then, according to his own statement, decided on his own authority to undergo surgery, Hoffenheimer’s side “exerted pressure until the evening before” “so that I would not undergo surgery”. Now Belfodil, who had come from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2018, sees no future in Hoffenheim, although his contract runs until 2022.
