FC Bayern was traded for some time, but then Kai Havertz caused a stir this summer with his spectacular change from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen to FC Chelsea.
The fixed redemption of 80 million euros plus possible bonus payments of up to 20 million euros have made the 21-year-old the most expensive German player of all time. In an interview with the “Sport Bild”, the offensive man now explained why he chose the blues.
After all, with FC Bayern Munich, Havertz was also currently the best club team in Europe. In the summer, however, the native of Aachen decided against a change to the German record champion, but dared to take the step into the English Premier League.
“It was important to me to have an association with a vision. An exciting change is taking place. We are a young team with many great players. We think offensively. We want to build and attack something here. That motivates me very much. And then a title with Chelsea is worth a lot more,” explained Havertz, who has played ten competitive matches for Chelsea since arriving in London and has already scored four goals.
Team manager Frank Lampard was another decisive factor in why the election fell to the six-time English champion. Havertz had already repeatedly described this as a great role model. “I always stuck to his goal danger. For a midfielder, I thought that was outstanding. That’s what I want to measure myself against. I am also impressed that he was so successful and at the same time so sympathetic,” Havertz said about the living club legend, who has been back at the club as a team manager for a year and a half.
