Atletico Madrid is apparently considering a commitment from Rodrigo. The 28-year-old striker is still under contract with FC Valencia until 2022, but would probably be available for around 60 million euros. This is what the Marca and the Cadena SER report.
Apparently Atletico coach Diego has identified Simeone Rodrigo as an alternative to James Rodriguez. The transfer of Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder does not seem feasible from a financial point of view.
Rodrigo is a different type of player than the former Bayern star, he is regarded as a nimble middle forward who plays along. It would be a complement to the classic nines Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa. Joao Felix can also play this role, but Simeone schedules him on the right side. Thomas Lemar, actually a left wing player, last stormed at the top next to Morata.
As Cadena SER reports, Rodrigo is not averse to switching to the Rojiblancos. His father and advisor is said to be already in contact with Atletico, but AS has yet to make an official offer.
Rodrigo’s contract contains a fixed exit clause of 120 million euros. But according to Marca, Valencia are ready to let their striker go for half. But if the cousin of Bavaria’s Thiago leaves the vampires, that would be “a terrible loss,” as Valencia coach Marcelino said: “Then we’ll have to look around the market.”
An exchange transaction would also be conceivable. With Nikola Kalinic (31) and Angel Correa (24), Atletico have two strikers in the squad who will be allowed to leave the club this summer. The latter was last associated with AC Milan. So far, however, the clubs have not been able to agree on a transfer fee.
