The Milan football temple San Siro is probably history in a few years. The two Milan clubs Inter and AC Milan agreed on Monday to build a new arena in the same district that gave the arena its name.
In 1980 the venue was renamed Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. During the 1990 World Cup, the selection of the German Football Association (DFB) on the way to the third title in the preliminary round, eighth and quarter finals played five games in San Siro.
The last stadium to hold 80,000 spectators, in which the German record champion Bayern Munich won the Champions League final against FC Valencia in 2001, is in the opinion of the two Milan clubs dilapidated and no longer to be renovated.
It is still unclear when construction work on the new arena will begin, but not before 2026. It is certain that the new gem will serve as a home stadium for both city rivals. The clubs, currently only tenants of the stadium, also want to become owners of the new arena.
