Great success for Austria’s Italian export Robert Gucher. The 28-year-old Styrian is moving up from Italy’s third division, Serie C, to Serie B with his club AC Pisa. Gucher himself was the centre of attention.
Pisa won the promotion playoff against US Triestina with the overall score of 5:3: after the 2:2 in the first leg, they went into extra time after a 1:1. In the promotion playoffs of the lower divisions in Italy, the away goals rule is waived. AC Pisa scored two goals in extra time, with captain Gucher contributing the final goal.
Remarkable: for the ex-Kapfenberger it is already the third ascent in Italy: six years ago Gucher climbed sensationally from Serie C to Serie A with Frosinone. He has been with AC Pisa since 2017, enjoys a high standing there and mostly leads the Tuscans on the field as captain.
