Midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng will return to US Sassuolo for the time being after his loan to FC Barcelona. This was confirmed by President Giovanni Carnevali in an interview with SOCCERSCORE and Goal, after he had previously claimed that the Catalans would firmly commit the offensive man.
Barcelona had a purchase option of eight million euros for Boateng, but this was only valid until 30 June 2019 and has now expired. This was probably also a cooling off of interest in Barcelona.
“I never said we weren’t expecting him back. The interview was conducted before 30 June and published later,” Carnevali said. “I just said we still didn’t know what Barcelona wanted.”
By now, however, we know that “Boateng is coming back to Sassuolo. Then we’ll see what he wants to do.” Boatengs’ contract with the Serie A club runs until 2021, the last time there were rumours of a move to Turkey.
