Fix! Conte returns to Serie A

Series A: Fix! Conte returns to Serie A

As expected, Inter Milan has hired Antonio Conte as its new head coach. The former Chelsea coach succeeds Luciano Spallletti, who was dismissed on Thursday.

“A new chapter in my life begins, I am very excited”, said Conte in a first statement. He was enthusiastic about Inters’ desire to take the club back to where it belonged. Conte is to receive a basic salary of ten million euros for the first two years.

“I must now repay all the trust that the president and the sports director put in me through hard work. I chose Inter because of the history of the club and the good conditions of the project,” said Conte.

Their predecessor Spalletti qualified for the Champions League with the Nerazzurri in fourth place in the previous Serie A season, but also failed in the European League round of the last sixteen against Eintracht Frankfurt – too little for the Chinese club president Steven Zhang.

Conte has been without a job at Chelsea FC since his dismissal last year. He had finished the 2017/18 season with the Blues in fifth place. Previously was from 2011 to 2014 for Juventus Turin (three championship titles). He then trained the Italian national team for two years.
