Inaki Williams and Athletic Club have extended their cooperation until summer 2028. The Basque striker is thus the player with the longest contract term in top football.
Athletic Club announced the extension with Williams early Monday. The 25-year-old signed until 30 June 2028, but can change clubs at any time for a fixed transfer fee of 135 million euros, which is mandatory in Spain.
Williams is thus the football star with the longest contract duration. Until now, Manchester Citys was Ederson, who is bound in the Premier League until 2025. Only in January 2018 did Williams extend his contract until 2025 and then say: “I am where I want to be.”
In the still open transfer window of this summer Williams was traded at various clubs. Among other things, there is said to have been an offer of 100 million euros from Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund was also considered interested.
Williams may now have put a stop to speculation. The striker would already be 34 years old at the end of the contract. Since 2015 he has been playing for the professionals from Bilbao, before that he had been trained in the youth of the club. The only stop since 2013: A one-year loan for CD Basconia.
