Self-critical Messi takes Barca into his duty

Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona has strongly criticised the performance of the Catalans after the missed championship title in the Spanish Primera Division. “This game reflects the entire year. We were a weak team,” said Argentine football superstar after losing 1-2 to CA Osasuna. Rivale Real Madrid secured the title with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal in another outstanding game.

“Madrid has done its homework,” Messi said. “We helped them and made many points. We need to practice self-criticism – starting with the players, but also overall. We are Barcelona and it is our duty to win every game.” Messi scored a mid-term equaliser in defeat to Osasuna and spoke in one of his rare interviews after the game.

Barcelona had led the league by two points before the Corona break, but proved to be too inconsistent. Real won all ten games since the start of the season in mid-June.
