Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos still considers his Real Madrid compatriot Marcelo to be the best left-back in the world.
“It’s a shame he can’t go to Copa America because of an injury,” Carlos said in an exclusive interview with Goal and SOCCERSCORE.
“Marcelo has been and will be the best left-back in the world for the past ten years and probably for the next ten.”
During his active time, Carlos was one of the best players on the left defender’s position. The 2002 World Champion played for Real Madrid between 1996 and 2007 and played a total of 527 games for the club during that time.
Marcelo, now 31 years old, directly inherited Carlos from the royal family. Since 2005 he has played 486 compulsory games for the Madrilenians. After having been uncontroversial in the past years, he found himself on the bench several times due to Sergio Reguilon’s competition.
