Real awards Sergio Reguilon ligaintern

Published on

Left-back Sergio Reguilon will move on loan from Real Madrid to FC Sevilla. Both clubs confirmed that on Friday. The Spaniard comes to Andalusia for a year without a purchase option and will then return to Real Madrid.

At Seville, Reguilon meets his former coach Julen Lopetegui. Under the former Spanish national coach, the 22-year-old made his first breakthrough into the professional royal team last season.

Reguilon has been part of Real Madrid since 2005 and, under coach Santiago Solari, they were even promoted to regular last season. However, after Zinedine Zidane’s return, he was only second choice behind Brazilian Marcelo.

The commitment of left-back Ferland Mendy meant that he was now finally marginalised by the Madrileneans, so the Seville loan was the only way for him to continue his high level playing practice. But in the long run Reguilon could play a role at Real, which is why the Madrilenians didn’t want to sell him.
