Kai Havertz has been tested positive for the coronavirus as the fifth German national football player.
This was confirmed by team manager Frank Lampard shortly before FC Chelsea’s Champions League match against Stade Rennes on Wednesday night. The 21-year-old had gone into domestic isolation.
Before Havertz, Ilkay Gündogan, Emre Can, Serge Gnabry and Niklas Süle had already been tested positively. Havertz and Süle are likely to fall out for the international three-pack against the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Spain. The use of Can is questionable. Federal coach Joachim Löw will name his squad on Friday.
Havertz moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Stamford Bridge in the summer and immediately became a regular player.
