Lionel Messi was the first footballer to win the “Golden Shoe” for Europe’s best goal scorer for the sixth time. The world footballer scored 36 goals for FC Barcelona to win the La Liga title and relegated Kylian Mbappe to second place with 72 points (66 points). The French world champion did not have enough of his goal for Paris St. Germain against Stade Reims (1:3) on Friday to catch up with Messi.

Messi won the trophy for the third time in a row, the award went to the Argentinian for the first time in 2010. Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) took fifth place with 22 goals and 44 points.

To determine the ranking, the number of goals is multiplied by a factor that depends on the strength of the league. The five major leagues in Germany, Spain, England, Italy and France receive a factor of two.
