Lucas Hernández has finally won the hoped-for regular place in the defence at Bundesliga club FC Bayern. Also because competitor Alphonso Davies has been injured for weeks. But the Frenchman still hopes for a quick recovery of the fast left-back.
“I need the competition to move forward,” explained Lucas Hernández in an interview with “France Football”. Davies has been absent from FC Bayern since the end of October due to a ligament rupture in the ankle, whereas Hernández is usually on the left side of the defensive during this season under manager Hansi Flick.
The fact that the young Canadian often won the direct duel in the pre-season is obviously not a big problem for the Munich record transfer. “With his speed, technique and position play, he was the best left-back in the world,” said Hernández, who switched from Atlético Madrid to Säbener Straße for 80 million euros in the summer of 2019.
The difficult first months at FC Bayern, in the last championship season he was only ten times in the starting formation of a Bundesliga game, left no wounds with the French national player. On the contrary: “Even in the difficult situation last season I have always seen myself at FC Bayern”, especially since the German record champion “made great efforts financially” to realize the transfer.
