FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu contradicted reports that FC Barcelona had contacted attacker Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid.
In an interview with RAC1, Bartomeu emphasized, regarding the speculation about Griezmann’s commitment, “We’ve always said it, we’ve never spoken to him, there’s nothing to it.”
Most recently, Atletico boss Angel Gil heated up the rumours by confirming in an interview with the TV channel Movistar that Griezmann’s move to Catalonia had already been confirmed in March.
Griezmann had already announced his departure from Atletico in May after five years. The 28-year-old can leave the Spaniards for 120 million euros by means of an exit clause that takes effect on 1 July. A sum that would make it the fifth most expensive transfer ever.
In the Rojiblancos, the Frenchman scored 21 goals and ten goals in 48 games last season. He also won the World Cup in Russia last year with the French national team.
