FC Barcelona has signed Mike van Beijnen, the son of Frenkie de Jong, a newcomer to the team. The transfer raises questions, especially as the sporting quality of the new player for the second team is in doubt.
Barcelona announced the legal defender’s commitment on Thursday. Van Beijnen most recently played for NAC Breda’s second team, where he was nine times in the past season. A withdrawal clause of 100 million euros was included in the two-year contract.
Among others the Marca subsequently pointed out that van Beijnen was the son of Ali Dursun. He is part of the agency HCM Sports Management and had recently set up the deal between Ajax Amsterdam, de Jong and Barcelona.
Accordingly, the Spanish daily suspected that it was a favour in the context of the de Jong transfer. Van Beijnen had been rejected at various trial trainings in the Netherlands.
In January 2018 van Beijnen had ended his collaboration with Willem II and had been without contract for six months before NAC Breda signed him until summer 2019. The Dutch had no interest in prolonging his career with the talent, which is why he was able to move to Barcelona without a replacement.
