Spanish offensive player Inaki Williams was apparently racially insulted by the spectators on Saturday during the points game in the Primera Division between Espanyol Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao (1:1).
“It’s a sad day, something like this is totally inappropriate and must not happen,” said the 25-year-old.
League president Javier Tebas spoke on Twitter of a “step backwards in the work we started years ago”. Things like this “did great damage to Spanish football”.
Especially during his 69th-minute substitution, he said, the insults were said to have been directed at the dark-skinned athletic professional. Espanyol is threatened with a sanction by the Spanish federation.
