On Tuesday, the change of Javi Martínez from FC Bayern back to his former club Athletic Bilbao was reported by the “Bild” as perfect. Now, however, the deal threatens to fail.
According to information from “Spox” and “Goal”, a Martínez transfer is “on the verge”. Accordingly, Bilbao speculates that the midfielder and FC Bayern can terminate the existing contract prematurely until 2021 and thus move Martínez to Spain free of charge. The portals refer to sources from around the Spanish first-team team.
The fact that Martínez was missing from the traditional photo shoot in the Wiesn outfit has already been interpreted as a clear signal for a farewell. Surprisingly, the 32-year-old then stood in the Bavarian squad for the Supercup against FC Sevilla.
Most recently, the “picture” had reported that Martínez would join his former club Athletic Bilbao in the coming days. Already in winter the Basques are said to have dealt with a return action of their former player. Martínez is also said to have always been open to moving to his old homeland.
For the 32-year-old, the Munich residents will receive a redemption of around ten million euros. The defensive player supposedly also had an offer from San Sebastian, but Martínez preferred to spend the fall of his career at his heart’s club, they say.
