The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has opened an investigation into the betting manipulation scandal against the first division team Real Valladolid and its players Borja Fernandez and Sergio Gontan.
At the request of the relegated FC Girona, the first division match between Valladolid and FC Valencia (0:2) from the last matchday of last season will be investigated, the association announced on Wednesday.
Last week, the Spanish media had already reported the suspicion of fraud, with a total of seven Valladolid players involved. They are accused of deliberately defeating Valencia to secure fourth place in the Primera Division and thus a place in the Champions League.
If the suspicion turns out to be true, Valladolid is threatened with forced descent. Another season in the Primera Division would benefit Girona.
