Ajax apparently had first talks with Carles Alena from FC Barcelona. As early as this summer, the 21-year-old midfielder is to move to Amsterdam on a loan basis, according to the Spanish sports magazine El Club de la Mitjanit.
The central midfield of the Catalans is very well occupied by Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha and Arthur. In the summer, Frenkie de Jong and the currently on loan Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez could also get involved in the fight for a place in the starting eleven. So the situation for Alena wouldn’t be any easier.
Ajax and Barcelona are reportedly to establish a cooperation in which more Catalan talents will be able to gain playing experience in Amsterdam. Alena could close a gap at Ajax, which will open after the departure of de Jong.
Under coach Ernesto Valverde, Alena were not able to assert themselves in the current season, only three times he was allowed to play in the league from the beginning, not a single time he could play through. Alena has played for FC Barcelona since his youth and has a contract until summer 2022.
