According to a media report, FC Barcelona is said to have hired a company to spread negative comments about its own players and opponents on social networks in order to strengthen the image of the club’s top players.
The Catalans immediately denied the accusations by the radio station “Cadena Ser” in a statement on Monday on the club’s website. According to Cadena Ser, the players involved even included stars such as Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué.
Messi had defended himself against criticism from sports director Eric Abdial with sharp words at Instagram in early February.
In a statement, FC Barcelona denied “any connection” to such negative or derogatory news about persons or organisations related to the club. Although the company in question was acting as a service provider for the club, it was not related to the social media accounts mentioned.
