Altintop: “Real has been very damaged”

Former Turkish international Hamit Altintop has criticised the current situation at his ex-club Real Madrid. “Real has now unfortunately been very damaged, because you also try to force certain things,” said the 36-year-old in an interview with Sport1.

According to Altintop, the recent 3:7 defeat against city rivals Atletico Madrid at the International Champions Cup had damaged the Madrilenians’ self-confidence.

“That was a solid defeat, which a Real fan and responsible person first has to come to terms with. Of course, this also gnaws on the self-confidence of the entire team,” he said.

“Now it’s time for a fresh start. The new transfers also set a clear signal. But that doesn’t mean that everything will work as it did in 2017/2018. It will be a very interesting and important season for Real,” Altintop continues.

Born in Gelsenkirchen, he once played for Real Madrid between 2011 and 2012. On Tuesday his former club will meet Tottenham Hotspur at the Audi Cup in Munich.
