At Borussia Dortmund, Henrikh Mkhitaryan regularly demonstrated his outstanding skills between 2013 and 2016 and experienced the heyday of his career to date. However, switching to BVB was not the Armenian’s first option in 2013. Before the offer came from Dortmund, the 31-year-old was on his way to the Premier League.
As Mkhitaryan revealed to “Siamo La Roma”, he and his advisor Mino Raiola had already been in London to hold talks with Tottenham. Liverpool FC are also said to have been interested. However, an offer from the Reds was not forthcoming.
Only when his position at Spurs and Anfield Road was filled elsewhere did Mkhitaryan see the next step in his career in the Bundesliga.
“In Liverpool and Tottenham the positions were already filled, so switching to Borussia was the best thing I could do,” Mkhitaryan explains.
