Premier League: Premiere in England: Pep sees yellow

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola made an inglorious debut in his win over FC Liverpool in Community Shield after a penalty shootout. The Spaniard was the first coach in England to be warned with a yellow card.

This will allow a new regulation to come into force for the new season, under which supervisors can also be punished with yellow and red cards. Guardiola’s warning was triggered by a Catalan tantrum due to a foul by Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

The Englishman had cleared City-Star David Silva in the 41st minute. Guardiola then complained loudly to the fourth Official Stuart Atwell, who failed to reassure the 48-year-old. Consequently, referee Martin Atkinson showed Guardiola the yellow card.

Such cases could also soon occur in the Bundesliga. However, the DFL is still discussing whether the cards should be blocked for coaches, as is the case with players. Meanwhile, several Bundesliga coaches, including Julian Nagelsmann and Friedhelm Funkel, were already dissatisfied with the new rule.
