Premier League: Official: Gündogan extended at City

German international Ilkay Gündogan has extended his contract with English champions Manchester City on a long-term basis. As the Citizens announced on Friday, the 28-year-old signed until 2023.

“I’ve been enjoying the last three years at City. It’s a privilege to be a part of this team, to play that kind of football like we do – and to win trophies,” said Gündogan, whose contract expired next summer.

The midfield director moved from Borussia Dortmund to the Premier League in 2016 for 27 million euros. For team manager Pep Guardiola’s club, Gündogan has played 114 competitive games so far, scoring and preparing 17 goals each.

“It’s an honor to work for this great club and with these great players, coaches and people. I look forward to continuing this work. I’m sure there’s more waiting for us. Thank you for your support,” Gündogan said in a video message.

With City, the Gelsenkirchen native won all four national titles in the current calendar year: Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and the Community Shield (Supercup).
