Messi? Ronaldo? “Can’t get United any closer.”

Premier League: Messi? Ronaldo? "Can't get United any closer."

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has advised the Red Devils against top stars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale. “I don’t think one or two players for more than 100 million will help the team or the other players,” he said in a BBC sports show.

United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must build a team, added Rooney, adding: “He needs five, six players with potential and he must support them. It’ll do you more good in the long run.”

“You could buy three players, for example Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi, that would cost you some 350 million euros,” said the 33-year-old. “After a few years, however, the money would be gone. The club must rebuild itself with young players,” he demanded.

With 21-year-old Daniel James of Swansea City, Manchester United recently secured a talent for itself.
