Leroy Sane has torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee according to the picture. The Bayern wish-list player must therefore be operated and would be out for months. However, an official confirmation from Manchester City is still pending.
Sane had been ordered into the starting eleven last Sunday by City coach Pep Guardiola against Liverpool, despite rumours that he had returned to the Bundesliga, and had been injured in the early stages of the game by an unfortunate knee step in a running duel with Reds defender Trent-Alexander Arnold.
For weeks now, the German record champion has been associated with a commitment by the 23-year-old, and the first reports of an agreement in the transfer poker game also made the rounds last week. For example, The Athletic reported on Monday that Sane had already informed their fellow players in Manchester about his departure.
It is still unclear whether FC Bayern will refrain from a transfer in view of the diagnosis. As reported by Bild und Sport 1 on Wednesday, it cannot be ruled out that the Bayern Sane will still win, “should their downtime remain manageable”. The kicker, on the other hand, reported that a deal in the three-digit million range would be unlikely in the event of a failure lasting several months.
