Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 has sold midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin to the Premier League club FC Everton and can look forward to a cash blessing. As the Rheinhessen announced on Friday, the Ivorian will receive a contract with the Toffees until 2024.
Mainz did not provide any information about the transfer fee, according to media reports it should be around 25 million euros.
Gbamin had moved from the French club RC Lens to Mainz in 2016 for around five million euros. He played for the Bundesliga team in 95 compulsory games and scored three goals.
“Jean-Philippe Gbamin is a prime example of the continuous development of a promising talent at Mainz 05. Over the past three years, he has matured into an internationally acclaimed player for us,” said sports director Rouven Schröder.
His professionalism and patience in this development will now enable him to move to the Premier League, which he has personally formulated as a dream and an absolute goal.
