Jürgen Klopp took it seriously: Without his German team manager and his complete ensemble of stars, soccer Champions League winner FC Liverpool in the English FA Cup has only played the round of sixteen with his U23 talents and still reached the last sixteen.
In the replay against third-league team Shrewsbury Town, the “Mini-Reds”, who Klopp had sent onto the field in place of his first eleven after the embarrassing 2-2 draw in the first duel in protest against the appointment hunt, scored a 1-0 (0-0) win – by an own goal from the guests 15 minutes before the final whistle.
Klopp himself also took a break. Borussia Dortmund’s former championship coach was represented by Neil Critchley from his coaching staff. The Reds’ next opponent is European League winners Chelsea FC.
