Manchester City and star coach Pep Guardiola are now allowed to play in the Champions League for the next two seasons. A corresponding ban of the European Football Union was collected by the International Sports Court Cas. UEFA had sanctioned the English club for violations of the financial rules, but Man City had moved to the Cas in Lausanne, which announced its verdict. The additional fine of 30 million euros was reduced from cash to ten million euros.
ManCity said it “welcomed” the decision and considered it “confirmation of the club’s position”. UEFA merely “took note” in an initial reaction and pledged “to the principles of financial fair play”.
