Jealousy? Klopps separation from Buvac

Published on

At the end of April 2018 Jürgen Klopp and his long-time co-trainer Zeljko Buvac unexpectedly split up. Now there’s news on the backgrounds: Buvac was allegedly jealous of Klopp’s fourth assistant coach at FC Liverpool.

“The Liverpoolers had noticed that the notoriously taciturn Bosnian had switched from monosyllabic to null-syllabic in recent months,” says the updated biography written by journalist Raphael Honigstein about Klopp.

And continues: “Buvac gave the impression that he was not happy with the increasing influence of the fourth assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders. The loose, bright Dutchman had been very popular with the players. The relationship between Buvac and Klopp had survived, the two could simply no longer work together.”

Klopp and Buvac had worked together for 17 years. The duo started together in 2001 at FSV Mainz 05, before moving to Borussia Dortmund for seven years in 2008 and then to Liverpool.
