Jan Vertonghen seems to have survived his hard impact in the Champions League semi-final against Ajax Amsterdam. As the central defender announced in the social media, he feels much better again on Thursday.
In the 39th minute Jan Vertonghen had to be carried off the court with the support of the doctors. After the collision with his team mate Toby Alderweireld and Ajax keeper Andre Onana, the Belgian had gone down bleeding.
After the first examinations of the doctors he had returned to the field before he had to be replaced with a suspected concussion.
As the club announced on its homepage, the Belgian national player will today go to a neurologist for further investigations to rule out possible permanent damage. The doctor is apparently a specialist for professional athletes and could therefore judge how serious the head injury of the 32-year-old is.
Whether Vertonghen can be used again next week in the Champions League against Ajax is not yet certain.
