European League finalist FC Chelsea has to do without Ruben Loftus-Cheek for months. The 23-year-old suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a benefit match in the USA. According to the club, he was scheduled for surgery on Thursday evening.
Loftus-Cheek injured himself in his team’s 3-0 win over New England Revolution in the second half.
The midfielder, who shot Chelsea into the lead against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final return leg, will miss the final against FC Arsenal on 29 May. It will also not be available to the English national team for the final tournament of the Nations League (5-9 June).
