Chelsea-Youngster and Bayern transfer goal Callum Hudson-Odoi have suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in the London draw against FC Burnely and will be injured for the rest of the season.
In the 37th minute at 2-2, the young Englishman grabbed his right foot after trying to stop a high ball and take a long step back. As a result, he immediately sat down on the floor with his face painfully distorted and signalled that he could not continue playing. Hudson-Odoi will thus miss Chelsea in the final spurt of the season as well as in the semi-final of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt.
“I’m totally done finishing my season this way,” wrote Hudson-Odoi on Twitter, “I have to work hard to get back stronger in the next season.”
For Chelsea, the loss of the wingman is a setback in the final sprint of the season. The Blues are fourth after the draw against relegation candidate Burnley, who is still entitled to participate in the Champions League. However, the lead over their rivals FC Arsenal is only one point and Chelsea have already played one more match.
Hudson-Odoi has played in ten league games (one template) this season and has also scored nine times in the Europa League (four goals, two templates). In the winter, FC Bayern had publicly confirmed its great interest in the top talent, but Chelsea had repeatedly rejected the German record champion.
