Premier League: Ferdinand possibly first Utd sports director

Rio Ferdinand could apparently become the first sports director in Manchester United’s history after talks with CEO Ed Woodward. This reports the DailyMail.

The Englishman played for the Red Devils from 2002 to 2014 and was primarily active as a TV expert after his career ended. Woodward and the former player Ferdinand have been in contact for over four years, but Ferdinand has so far refused to get involved because of his children.

Meanwhile he should have concrete interest in the post. As sports director, he and coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could renew the team and lead it back to the European top after some difficult years.

According to the report, Ajax Amsterdam was the model for the club. With the former professionals Edwin van der Sar and Marc Overmars, the Dutch have a duo with a stable smell at the top and recently celebrated undreamt-of successes in the Champions League.

Manchester United have always relied on a strong team manager, who has not only taken over the coach’s usual tasks, but also the planning of the squad. In addition to Ferdinand, Mike Phelan and Darren Fletcher were also potential candidates recently.
