Ilkay Gündogan of Manchester City is on the verge of extending his contract with the current Premier League champions.
After the community shield duel with FC Liverpool (5:4 A.D.), the German national player was asked about his future in the mixed zone, whereupon he made promising hints.
“I feel very good right now. Everyone must make such a decision for themselves, but if you remain patient, you will know in the next weeks,” Gündogan is quoted among other things by the Mirror.
The midfielder, who took his penalty kick in the Reds penalty shoot-out, pointed out that the official announcement would be a long time coming: “Every situation is different, of course. These decisions just take a little longer. In the last year I have often asked for patience, because I want to make a decision for the next years. The situation is currently very comfortable for me.”
In the recent past, the ex-Nürnberger was associated with a return to Borussia Dortmund.
Gündogan’s current contract with the Cityzens runs until 2020. The 28-year-old has run 108 times for the top club since his arrival in Etihad (2016).
